Medical Device Innovation Consortium Names New CEO

The Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) has named William V. Murray as its president and CEO. Murray succeeds interim Executive Director Dale Wahlstrom, who has returned to his full-time role as president and CEO of LifeScience Alley (LSA) and The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota (BBAM). Wahlstrom remains a member of the MDIC board of directors. 

Murray has more than 25 years of executive leadership experience within the medical device industry. Most recently, he was CEO of Envoy Medical Inc., a St. Paul, Minn.-based developer of an implantable hearing restoration device. Prior to Envoy, he held executive business and engineering leadership positions. Murray began his career with Medtronic Inc., designing pacemakers before running the division 12 years later. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in electrical engineering. In his new role Murray will provide leadership and help raise funds to improve the medical device innovation process.

Under Dale’s leadership, MDIC has made a successful transition from start up to independent organization. The Board is thankful for his service and continued leadership as a director on MDIC’s Board.”

In accepting the position of president and CEO, Murray said, “I am excited by the opportunity to lead MDIC. I look forward to engaging with our members to bring the expertise of industry, government and non-profits together. Through the MDIC public-private partnership we can realize our vision of delivering the benefit of important new medical technologies to patients while enhancing safety and performance.”

Interim Executive Director Dale Wahlstrom said he is confident that Murray will continue the momentum and progress the MDIC has achieved in its first year of existence. 

Founded in 2012, MDIC is the first public-private partnership created with the objective of advancing medical device regulatory science in an effort to improve product safety and performance while reducing cost and time to market. The MDIC functions in the pre-competitive medical device space, providing a forum for collaboration to leverage resources and share critical information. MDIC’s mission is to promote public health through science and technology, to solve issues facing the industry while enhancing safe and effective product performance through the total product lifecycle of commercialized medical devices and to enhance trust and confidence among stakeholders.
